In the fields outside the village of Borodino, nearly two hundred and fifty thousand men helped decide the fate of Napoleon’s invasion of Russia.

Carrying on the series of apps that started with Battlelines: Pearl Harbor, Borodino is a unique examination of the titanic struggle between Napoleons Grande Armée and the forces of Imperial Russia.

On this historic day the Emperor’s vast, invincible Grande Armée clashed with the forces of Imperial Russia. It was a close-run and bloody battle, where epic cavalry charges involving thousands of men thundered across the battlefield, and desperate hand-to-hand fighting took place to control the field’s key redoubts. Ultimately, Napoleon won the battle and cleared the way to Moscow. However, it was a costly victory, and signalled the beginning of the end of Napoleon’s Russian campaign.

Three interactive maps chart the course of the days events in minute detail, and users can simply tap the map to get greater information on the key moments of the battle - from Platovs harrying cavalry charges to the final fall of the Great Redoubt. Whilst the main focus is on the battle itself, Battlelines: Borodino also gives information on the lead up to Napoleons momentous decision to invade Russia, the road to battle, and the horrific French retreat that would follow soon after victory.

Developed by Aimer Media in conjunction with the world-renowned military history publisher Osprey Publishing, this app is an informative, easy-to-use resource for anyone wanting to discover the titanic battle that would seal the fate of the invasion of Russia, and with it herald Napoleon’s downfall.
